Dear Parents/Guardians,

I'm writing to let you know how important it is to fill out the attached school meal application.

Given the world-wide COVID-19 situation, many people have temporarily lost their income. We encourage you to apply at this time, even if this is a short-term situation for you and your family.  If you have applied for unemployment benefits but haven't received any payments, please contact Melodie Stevens at 915-1894 for guidance. Approved applications are good for this school year (2020- 2021) and 30 days into the next school year (2021-2022).

We understand that some parents may be concerned about listing their private incomes on the application; please know that any personal information you provide will not be shared!

In addition to receiving free or reduced lunches and breakfasts, a benefit you may not be aware of is the eligibility for all our schools to receive Federal Grants and additional adequacy funds. The number of approved applications is directly related to the amount of Federal Grants we receive that enable us to fund Title 1 teachers, teaching resources and materials, and professional development! This does not affect the tax rates of our towns!

The attached application explains the income eligibility, a series of frequently asked questions, and guidance on how to get help to complete the application. Melodie Stevens, our Food Service Director, is available to confidentially help you in any way! She can be reached at 915-1894 or  mstevens@sauS6.org

Thank you for reading over the application and helping us generate additional funding for our children as well as providing nutritious meals every day!
