Patriot's Pen Essay Contest
Michelle Cote, Middle School ELA Teacher

The Patriot's Pen essay contest is sponsored by the VFW and gives students the opportunity to write an essay expressing their ideas and views on a patriotic theme. This year, the theme was "What makes America great?" The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief.

Each year more than 138,000 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest, and at the district level, the Whitefield School proudly took first, second, and third place in this contest. Our first place - Trevor Armstrong; second place - Gabriella Moran; third place - Rachel Travers. Congratulations on a job well done!

Please enjoy their essays below:

On - Campus Graduation Event
The Staff of The Whitefield School

For our on-campus event Friday evening, here are a few reminders:

Folks have asked if they can decorate their vehicle and we would be thrilled if you did. Students whose last name begin with A-G are invited to drive up from 5:00 to 6:15 pm. Students whose last name begin with H-Z are invited to drive up from 6:30 to 7:45 pm. You are welcome to arrive at any time within that 75 minute window. Please follow the route up the driveway, right, into the lower parking lot, and then at the end of the parking lot, left up and around to the bus lane. There will be cones to help guide you Middle School staff will be assembled along the front walk cheering the arriving graduates.

We ask that you wait in your vehicles until you reach the front entrance. There, Mrs. Plumley and Mr. Cronin will invite the graduate and a parent to exit the vehicle and receive their diploma and graduation bag. They will then be directed to the curtained backdrop where there will be an opportunity for a parent to take a solo photograph of the graduate with their diploma. Mr. Cronin and Mrs. Plumley will be masked, when they present the diploma and bag, but the student is welcome to take off any mask for their photo. Students and parents will be invited to return to their vehicle and head back down the school’s driveway. The next family will then pull up.

Whitefield PD will be on site for traffic support. The weather is looking good and we are looking forward to seeing and celebrating with all of you on Friday evening.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday.
